This year one of our missions is to work closer with independent creative technologists.

When we started out almost 4 1/2 years ago, the nice folks at Idea Couture offered us the same chance and we’re here today in part because of that experience and opportunity. So it’s only right we do that now as we transition from a start-up to a more established firm.

We’ve already worked with a few awesome people in our space and we decided we should open up a couple dedicated desks to accomodate two indviduals (or a team of two) on a full-time basis.

We’re seeking two creative, entrepreneurs, hackers or designers to join us in our space. So here’s the deal:

You get:

• Your own comfy spot at our office in a Herman Miller Aeron chair
• A VOIP phone line with unlimited national calling
• High-speed wireless Internet access
• Access to our custom-built kitchen (coffee, grinder and press, beer, convection oven/microwave – the essentials)
• Access to our bike storage room
• Use of our meeting room and presentation/teleconferencing equipment
• Loft-space office with beautiful easterly vistas of the Toronto skyline

Of course we think the chance to hang out and collab with fellow design, tech and web enthusiasts is the biggest mutual benefit.

Today we, like many others, are saddened by the loss of one of our generations greatest visionaries, Steve Jobs. We are but a speck in the vast universe of creative folk hoping to do something today that will make tomorrow better. Yet it is no exaggeration to stay that without Steve Jobs, we all would not be in the position we are today.

It is our belief the best way to honour him is to pause briefly to reflect on his legacy and lessons, then press on, work passionately, enjoy life and be the best creative technologists we can be.

We’re happy to welcome our newest team member, Annabelle Yoon, all the way from New Zealand.

Annabelle brings valuable conceptual and design skills to the role of Designer, with experience in strategic brainstorming, campaign development and creative execution on award winning campaigns while at Rapport in Auckland, NZ.

We’re extremely happy to have Annabelle on board, and look forward to helping her acclimatize to our fair city.

We have an exciting milestone to announce at Uproot. We’re moving to our new office at 110 Spadina Avenue next month. We’ll be closed on September 3rd, prior to the long weekend and be up and running by the following Tuesday.

We have a lot great things planned for our new home. We’ll hold off on the details for now but let’s just say that we look forward to making it an inspiring place for our team, clients and colleagues in our industry.

If you already follow us on Twitter or Facebook, you might have seen some of the photos of the new space as it evolves. For those interested, we’ll continue to post photos and information on Facebook to avoid cluttering up the blog with shameless self-promotion.

Our departure is bittersweet however as we’ll be leaving our friends at Idea Couture who have let us to grow in their space since Uproot’s inception. We’ve built Uproot from the ground-up without outside investment so being able to start here definitely gave us a head start. Our sincere thanks to Idris, Scott, Cheesan and their amazing team for making our time here memorable. We wish them the best as they continue to grow as well.

And to our clients, who of course are directly related to our ability to grow, we look forward to having you over to say thanks in person.

We’re extremely excited to announce the launch of Flashpoint: Training Day, a live-action game designed and built by Uproot and produced by Xenophile Media for CTV’s hit TV series, Flashpoint.

This project has been a 14-month journey that started with an idea to blur the lines between the audience and the show. Flashpoint: Training Day places the viewer right inside the world of Flashpoint where an original storyline and the show’s cast takes the viewer through a series of tasks and missions, eventually leading them to becoming a full-fledged member of the Strategic Response Unit.
